BIM 360 Docs & Design and Navisworks basics

Cloud collaboration solution
Connect design and construction processes and project teams

BIM 360 is a unified platform connecting your project teams and data in real-time, from design through construction, supporting informed decision-making and leading to more predictable and profitable outcomes.

Autodesk BIM 360 Docs is cloud-based construction document management software that allows you to share, view, markup, and manage your construction drawings, documents, and models.

BIM 360 Design is an online software platform that gives you real-time Revit cloud worksharing.

BIM 360 makes the coordination process easier for all stakeholders. Any project member can upload models, detect clashes, and resolve issues in real time — cutting dozens of hours of manual work from every project and reducing the risk of rework onsite.

  • Centralize all project information in a cloud-based platform.
  • Allow easy, controlled, transfer the information from design to construction.
  • Reduce rework risks by keeping everyone working from the current document set.
  • Take a standard and structured approach to document management.
  • Keep the entire project team informed and sync

Navisworks integrate 3D models from different applications such as Revit, AutoCAD, ArchiCAD, Microstation, Bentley applications, Civil 3D, 3D Plant, Inventor into a 3D model to create clash detection, construction schedules, 4D Simulations and animated visualizations.

BIM EXECUTION PLAN

For every project it is necessary to establish a BIM Execution Plan (BEP). We will study the bases and objectives of the BEP.

The intent of the BIM Execution Plan (BEP) is to define a foundational framework to ensure successful deployment of advanced design technologies on your BIM enabled project.
The BEP is about optimizing work and model flow across the project, as contrasted with optimizing siloed interests.
The key is good planning of the design-to-engineering-to-construction process to minimize downstream surprises, rework, redundancies or gaps in the flow of (model-based) information.
The BEP is to be completed in a collaborative environment at the project’s kick-off meeting. The data entry to, and distribution of, the projects BEP is the responsibility of the Project Architect unless another design-side team member is better qualified to coach the team on collaborative workflows.

The A/E team shall schedule a follow-up BIM meeting to review BEP, process, and guidelines with all stakeholders, including BIM integrators and reviewers.

It is expected that there will be in-depth discussion into the specifics of some of the items. The BEP is laying the foundation for your entire BIM project and errors made in this early stage of planning will have major negative downstream implications.

Some points to establish in the BEP:

  • Basic facts of the project such as project number, site and building address, major milestones, and project contacts.
  • The specifics of the project.
  • All project contacts.
  • Establish the objectives for the project.
  • Define the overall strategy for collaboration on the team:

Layout what meetings will be scheduled to facilitate team communication.
Agree to how and when model data will be exchanged
Workspaces allow for the entire team to work on their models in a single space.

  • Model integration methodology: set-up, objectives, facilitation, stakeholder, roles, frequency, location, resolution.
  • Clearly define how the team will implement a quality control procedure to ensure the highest quality of both building and data

NAVISWORKS CLASH DETECTIVE, TIMELINER AND ANIMATOR
